Beau Constantia is a boutique wine farm, spectacularly positioned within the heart of the Constantia Wine Route.

Situated on the top of Constantia Nek, Beau Constantia is a stylish, modern venue boasting amazing views down the Constantia Valley, over False Bay and across to the Helderberg Mountains.

It is a fabulous place to visit, if you are looking for a special venue to hang out with friends, to impress overseas visitors, or for just a little self-indulgence…..  It really is quite impressive as you arrive – the modern architecture, the views, the vineyards …  it’s just breath-taking and makes me realise how lucky we are to live at beautiful Stonehurst Mountain Estate (just 10 minutes’ drive from the Constantia wine route).

The architecture marries the colours and materials of the natural environment with contemporary interior design. Some stand out features are without a doubt, the ‘Loo with a View’ and the relaxing day beds that are truly in line with the Cape’s relaxed, slow paced lifestyle.

Originally a goat farm, after devastating fires destroyed the fynbos and pine forests on the property in 2000, the slopes were cleared and terraced, thereby exposing great potential for the planting of vineyards. Pierre and Cecily Du Preez purchased the 22 hectare property in 2002 and after extensive soil analysis the first vineyards were planted in 2003

Development of vineyards on the steep slopes took a lot of patience and effort, but today the farms prides itself with 11.47 hectares under vine. The cultivated varieties include Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Shiraz and Petit Verdot.

There aren’t a wide array of options when it comes to food but I can just about guarantee that once you have been there, you will return!!!

The Sushi Box provides the most fantastic sushi that I have ever had and that is saying something!!! They do a selection of platters and they are absolutely beautifully presented. Besides sushi, we have tried their tasting platter which consists of five different tasters, paired with five different Beau Constantia wines. This was fabulous – if you enjoy a taste sensation!

The views are completely different as it gets later, when the sun starts to set and the lights across the Valley start to flicker. Remember that the kitchen closes at 20h00 so timing is important………..

If you are in no rush whilst enjoying this experience, I would highly recommend that you book a ’day bed’ in advance. Here you can lie back and relax, after you have finished eating, whilst quaffing their delicious wines.

A real bonus for families wanting to visit during the day is being able to let the children play safely on the expansive open grass areas, whilst the parents relax and indulge themselves in the beautiful setting, the wine and the food.

IMG_1480For anyone that is not particularly fond of wine, Beau Constantia has recently started selling craft beer and cider from Darling Breweries and Cluver & Jack Cider, which is proving to be quite a hit with the guys…… so although it is a wine farm, they saw a gap in the market and the beer / cider options seem to have taken off very well.

Gourmet sushi, fine wines, beer on tap, all to be enjoyed on a sun filled deck overlooking the most spectacular scenery in the world sounds like something reserved for the famous and offensively rich in some far-off location? Well this isn’t the case – as this ultra-beautiful, modern and contemporary farm offers you the most delicious experience of your life – literally on your door step.

We have been offered a special little treat by Beau Constantia – for Stonehurst residents only: the first person who calls to make a reservation and mentions that they are a Stonehurst resident will receive a complimentary wine tasting.

So get calling and I’m sure that you will enjoy your experience as much as we did.
